Kent Law Firm LLC is proud to announce Shaun Kent’s induction to ABOTA – The American Board of Trial Advocates.
Shaun is proud to have been invited, and this puts him among the elite group of legal professionals in the United States.
Being accepted into the ABOTA is one of the highest professional honors for attorneys. It’s by invitation only that lawyers can join the ABOTA.
An invite is only extended to trial lawyers demonstrating high personal character and honorable reputation requirements.
This honor follows closely behind Shaun Kent becoming a Fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers (ABCL).
Adding to the robust list of accolades and professional recognitions that Shaun has earned during the 20+ years he’s been practicing law and serving the general public of South Carolina.
What the ABOTA Stands For
The ABOTA state their mission as:
The mission of the ABOTA Foundation is to promote and improve the American civil justice system. As well as preserving the Seventh Amendment right to civil jury trials for future generations.
Founded in 1958, ABOTA and its members are one of the nation’s foremost legal organizations. For decades it has continued its work in pushing the professionalism, ethics, and core principles behind what the legal profession should stand for.
What the ABOTA Foundation Is Doing for the Legal Profession
The ABOTA Foundation was formed in 1991. The Foundation is the education arm of the ABOTA and offers support to other organizations and legal professionals.
The core areas in which the Foundation is supporting new and established legal professionals include:
Professional Education
It’s important to the Foundation that the next generation of lawyers are great ambassadors for the profession.
Constitution and ethics play an important role in the legal profession. Moreover, the Foundation provides a range of professional education programs to help new lawyers.
With their wealth of legal knowledge, the Foundation provides training to lawyers that meet the highest standards of professionalism and advocacy in the practice of law.
Civics Education
The Foundation also provides resources and training materials for teachers and students. Furthermore, they know that by empowering teachers with all the right tools, they can better teach the next generation of legal professionals.
With core areas being the understanding of the Constitution, the judicial system, and civic engagement.
Public Education
The Foundation also provides resources and information to citizens. These tools aim to help them better understand the rights and privileges available to them in the Constitution.
Grant Giving
The ABOTA Foundation gives grants to organizations with missions that align with theirs. If a smaller organization is doing great work in any of the education fields related to the justice system, they can apply for a grant.

ABOTA Members
ABOTA members are invited to join based on having an excellent reputation and providing an outstanding contribution to the legal profession.
All applicants must also have tried a minimum of ten civil jury trials. Serving as lead counsel and seeing those trials through to their conclusion.
There are currently fewer than 8,000 members in total at the time of writing this. Shaun Kent joins an exclusive group of 265 other members in the state of South Carolina.
About Shaun Kent
Shaun graduated from the University of South Carolina Aiken in 1996. He did so with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a dual major in Political Science and Speech Communication.
He went on to study law and graduated in 2000. Shaun then returned to South Carolina where he started teaching criminal law.
Shaun also served as a public defender for Aiken before relocating to Charleston, South Carolina. He served as an Assistant Solicitor while in Charleson.
While working as a prosecutor himself, Shaun was able to oversee new prosecutors’ training. In addition, upon leaving the prosecutor’s office, Shaun started practicing law in Manning. He started his own law firm, Kent Law Firm LLC, in 2012 and is based in Manning.
